Sand Finish or Rendering
Cement Render, also known as Sand Finish is the cheaper alternative to 'Texture Coating'. Cement Render the most common exterior finish in the Perth residential market and a very popular choice with "Project Home" builders. It creates crisp, sharp lines and is very ascetically pleasing. The advantages are it can be painted to whatever colour you like, it is very strong (being cement based) and is relatively affordable.

What is Cement Rendering?
To understand what Cement Rendering is, you must first understand the process.
The first step in the process is to find a substate (brick).
Piers - The brickwork has been damaged by the bore water.
Damaged alright - As you can clearly see the bricks and the cement mortar has eroded.
Rendering is a very messy occupation, so extra preparation is required especially when working on an existing dwelling.
We try our best to keep our mess to a minimum.
The next step is to apply the render (or 'mud' as we call it in the industry) which is usually formulated using cement, lime, sand and water. It is then mixed and applied by hawk and trowel to a brick substrate.
Note; a special additive has been added to the mix to stop the cement from eroding again.

It is then ruled to give you a straight flat surface.

The surface is then rubbed-up with a "plastic float" for a blemish free appearance with crisp, sharp edges.

The final Step is to go over it with a sponge for a very attractive sandy surface, hence the name "Sand Finish".
